Dr. Steven Smith Managing Director

Steve oversees the business, and has responsibility for sales and marketing of the team's skills. He has a flair for spotting an opportunity — and the flexibility to put together a deal that works for clients and for Alchemy.

Steve was one of the founders of Alchemy back in 1996.

Dr. Howard Nicholls Project Manager and Business Analyst

Howard is often the key liaison person between the client and the technical team. He has been responsible for a number of long term accounts. Howard enjoys the business aspect of his role as well as the technical elements. He is an Alchemy shareholder and has been with the company since 2000.

Howard has a PhD in computer science and is a long term member of the IEEE Computer Society professional association.

Dave Eaves Software Architect

Dave is a very experienced software architect and lead developer. He has been involved with developing internet-based applications since the mid '90s.

One of Dave's successes is the award-winning Airways NZ CAM project, for which he was lead architect. This involved delivering a high-availability web-based application that interacts with the New Zealand air traffic management system.

Dave joined Alchemy in 1998 and he is also a shareholder. He has an MSc(Hons) in Computer Science.

Dean Ashby Software Architect

Dean has a technical lead/system architect role. He loves exploiting new technology to solve clients' problems.

He has designed complex web applications, intranets, portals and client-server systems. Dean has responsibility for the smooth operation of Alchemy's server infrastructure.

Dean is a director and he founded Alchemy with Steve Smith. He has a an MSc(Hons) in Computer Science.

Behind the owners is a team of experienced project managers, business analysts, software engineers and test analysts. The developers all have degrees in some flavour of computer science or IT, and have experience from 3 to 20+ years in industry. We have both Microsoft and Java specialists.

Due to the nature of our business, we are often developing new systems, and so we are able to make use of the latest technologies. This provides a great opportunity for our staff to keep abreast of new trends.
